Myth About the Safety Toe

NewsID:164    Datetime:2010-12-29

When you look up information about safety toe safety shoesand work boots, you are bound to come across websites that tell you of stories of the dangers of wearing safety shoeswith a safety toe. There are a number of rumors of stories about how a safety toe caused toes to be cut when something fell on them.

The story goes that when a heavy object connects with the steel plate, the plate snaps and cuts your toes, causing a significant amount of damage.

This story is completely false.

The Truth

Every safety toe is tested to make sure that it can withstand a great deal of pressure. This makes a lot of sense, as it takes a great deal of weight and pressure to get steel to bend, let alone snap. The amount of weight these toes can handle may be as much as 3 tons or more.

Now, after 3 tons, the steel can snap. But the force that causes that much pressure would crush your toes anyway, and you will get the same injury if not one that is much, much worse.

So while it is true that a lot of pressure can break the safety toe, that same amount of pressure would virtually demolish your toes and feet anyway, probably worse than if the toe wasn't there.

While the evidence of this being a myth rather than fact exists, the myth continues to be spread which prevents people from wanting to make the purchase. Rest assured, however, that safety toe work boots and safety shoesare very safe, and the protection they give you in a place with injury risks is more than enough to keep you safe through almost any kind of accident.
